The Dickey Prairie Road Bridge spanning the North Fork of the Molalla River in rural Clackamas County is currently in the process of being replaced. The existing fracture-critical steel stringer bridge has previously been repaired numerous times and is currently posted for load restrictions, which limit truck access to areas upstream of the bridge. The 23-foot-wide bridge with no sidewalks is functionally obsolete and the steel rails are substandard.
Clackamas County wants to replace it with a low-maintenance, durable bridge that meets current safety and strength standards. OBEC studied several alternatives to determine the best overall approach when considering the impacts and benefits of various roadway alignments, bridge types, and traffic control measures. Three structures were investigated from which a single span steel girder with cast-in-place concrete deck was recommended. Construction is expected to begin in late spring of 2011 and last five months.
