South Umpqua River (Pruner Road) Bridge

Douglas County, Oregon

Douglas County and the Oregon Department of Transportation began planning to replace the Pruner Road Bridge when the concrete structure began showing signs of severe deterioration.

OBEC presented the County with three design alternatives for the project, and the County ultimately chose a structural steel bridge option because of its lower cost, faster construction time, and minimal disruption to the traveling public.

The new replacement bridge features aesthetically pleasing weathering steel, concrete rails with an ashlar stone treatment, and brown powder-coated steel railings to increase the structure's visual appeal. The deck features a high-strength concrete that resists cracking and was recognized by ODOT for its innovative composition.

During construction, Coho salmon became a federally listed endangered species, so OBEC's team of environmental specialists performed an emergency consultation with the National Marine Fisheries Service to successfully manage the environmental documentation for this project.
