As part of its plan to expand its wastewater treatment plant, the City of Gold Beach acquired land near the coastal estuary of Riley Creek. The property has been significantly degraded over the past 100 years, resulting in wetland loss and creek channelization.
OBEC's environmental team conducted a wetland delineation and functional assessment study on the acquired property to assist the City in receiving funding to restore 2.5 acres of the land in order to provide wetland habitat and improve Riley Creek's water quality. OBEC analyzed and compiled the collected data into a succinct wetland delineation and functional assessment report for review and concurrence from the Department of State Lands.
As a part of the project, OBEC staff created a portfolio of drawings that establish boundaries of existing wetlands by type and condition. These drawings will be used for planning purposes prior to, during and following the completion of the proposed restoration work. Additional work included wetland/waters boundary survey, invasive species mapping, and a presentation of findings to the City's wetland committee.
