Interstate 205, also known as the East Portland Freeway, serves as an Interstate 5 bypass in the Portland/Vancouver metropolitan area. This heavily used metropolitan thoroughfare provides access to Portland's eastern suburbs, as well as to the Portland International Airport.
This $32 million reconstruction and preservation project included repairs on 15 bridges, the construction of auxiliary lanes from I-5 to Stafford Road, concrete pavement rehabilitation, and more than five miles of asphalt overlay from Stafford Road to the Willamette River Bridge.
This project was given a highly compressed nine-month fast-track schedule, but OBEC was able to complete it on time with a very high level of quality through close coordination with the Oregon Department of Transportation. When major project changes threatened the project schedule, OBEC's designers expedited the final design phase to provide ODOT the necessary resources to make decisions as quickly as possible.
