BRIDGE/STRUCTURE LEADERSHIP
OBEC enjoys a reputation earned over 39 years
for our design of unique, constructible, and economical concrete,
steel and timber bridges. Our expertise in the design and rehabilitation
of diverse structures is the result of having completed more than
2,500 bridges, many receiving regional or national recognition.
Our commitment to quality and client satisfaction combined with
our tradition of cost-effective design excellence has progressed
through the years. Our innovative designs involving cast-in-place
concrete, precast segmental post-tensioned concrete, precast and
cast in place concrete spandrel arches, economical short span bridges,
deep prestressed concrete bulb tee girders enabling longer spans,
and design of precast concrete stress ribbon and suspension bridges
for a wide range of applications. Innovative designs include use
of state-of-the-art engineering solutions that distinguish our
bridge design capabilities such as new and existing suspension
bridge cable protection, suspender replacement design, and deflection
controlled deck staging. Innovative concrete mix designs for crack
control and use of shotcreting in new construction and bridge repair
are among our diverse technical accomplishments appreciated by
our many clients.
LEADING EDGE SEISMIC, RETROFIT, REHABILITATION AND INSPECTION
As a leader in highway bridge design, OBEC has been actively engaged
in state-of-the-art seismic design, retrofit, and rehabilitation
of existing bridges. We have provided bridge inspection and load rating
services on more than 3,000 structures and have assisted State
and Local Agencies with design and execution of bridge rehabilitation
measures and emergency repairs. OBEC was among the first firms
in the state to provide biennial bridge inspection services to
local agencies through ODOT to satisfy the FHWA National Bridge
Inventory (NBI) requirements, and we have been a continual participant
in that ongoing program. As such, OBEC has the most experienced
FHWA certified bridge inspection team in Oregon with the majority
of our inspectors possessing more than 25 years’ experience.
OBEC’s bridge rehabilitation
design experience includes major projects such as St. Johns Bridge
(suspension span), Burnside Bridge (bascule span), Ferry Street
Bridge (steel truss span), and Independence Bridge (steel plate
girder spans).

engineering group is dedicated to performing a full-range of field
services through all phases of construction. OBEC’s competence
in construction oversight, quality control, materials testing,
and precast inspection, are attributes our clients depend upon
and appreciate. Our skill and diligence at administering change
orders and price agreements, wage certifications, periodic estimates and
reports, quantity verification, providing liaison with the owner
and collaboration with government agencies, are integrated construction
management services provided by OBEC for a truly satisfactory end

IN-DEPTH HIGHWAY/ROADWAY CAPABILITIES
OBEC Consulting Engineers has exhibited its in-depth highway design
expertise on all types of roadway engineering projects involving urban
and rural highways, interchanges, highway relocation design, major
arterials and local streets, and multi-use pathways, along with logging
roads and slide corrections. OBEC typically provides construction
surveying and construction engineering services and our highway design
and street improvement services include right of way work and legalizations,
geotechnical studies, hydraulic modeling, utility
coordination and relocation design, environmental permitting, and
public involvement.
Beyond design and construction of lane width, curb,
gutter, sidewalks, retaining walls, new storm sewers and storm
sewer detention/water quality facilities, most of our urban and
city street projects have key
traffic calming, pedestrian crossing, and landscape design issues
to resolve. We also manage traffic studies and design of traffic
signals, lighting/illumination, signage, channelization and striping.
Our accomplished design staff is thoroughly familiar
with ODOT and
AASHTO geometric design standards and their extensive experience
in all
aspects of road design and construction requirements, as well as
construction staging and traffic control provide the economical
and
constructible civil engineering solutions our clients seek.
CIVIL ENGINEERING EXPERTISE
Civil Engineering services such as site planning and development,
slide
repairs, pipelines, and design of retaining wall systems; water
resources, storm drainage, water diversion intake structures, and fish
ladders/enhancement projects are among the many civil design services
OBEC performs. Public use facilities such as parking lots, boat ramps,
fishing piers, and small building projects are also services we
provide to our many clients.
GEOMATICS/SURVEY
OBEC's Geomatics/Survey expertise incorporates state-of-the-art
technology for location surveying, construction staking, and
right-of-way services including retracement, mapping, descriptions,
and monumentation.

As the recipient of numerous awards, we are proud to have enjoyed
recognition from the Portland Concrete Association (PCA), American
Concrete Institute (ACI), Precast Concrete Institute (PCI),
American
Institute for Steel Construction (AISC), Oregon Concrete and Aggregate
Producers Association (OCAPA) and the American Consulting Engineers
Council (ACEC-Oregon). Several of OBEC’s bridges are
featured in the PCI
Journal on State-of-the-Art Spliced Concrete Girder Bridges. Numerous
