Deer Creek (Old Scenic Highway 101) Bridge
Due to environmental impacts resulting from this bridge replacement project, a total of eight approvals, studies, and reports were required, including Biological Assessment for northern spotted owl and marbled murrelet. Our environmental staff performed all of these tasks and submitted the documentation to regulatory agencies.
OBEC coordinated extensively with the agencies to come to an agreement on mitigation and permit compliance to allow the use of programmatic permitting, and permits were received without delay. The delineation and functional assessment concluded rapidly, and our mitigation design was accepted by the regulatory agencies.
- The environmental team confirmed that a single-span precast concrete bridge on a skew would avoid impacts to protected fish as well as marbled murrelet and spotted owl habitat at the bridge site.
