Duff Water Treatment Plant
To meet growing demand, the Medford Water Commission (MWC) underwent an expansion of their plant that treats water taken from the Rogue River. OBEC provided structural specialty services for the expansion of the facility from 45 MGD to 65 MGD.
The design work included a new sludge vault, settled water and overflow flumes, four new treatment lines, and flocculation and settling basins to expand the water processing capacity. The design team worked closely with the MWC to come up with a construction sequence that would allow the existing plant to operate at peak capacity throughout construction.
- The design team worked closely with the contractor and concrete suppliers to formulate concrete mixes meeting NFS testing requirements for mix constituents and hardened concrete for safe long-term contact with drinking water in all water bearing structures.
- OBEC developed custom shrinkage compensation requirements, limited pour temperature differential, and detailed concrete pour sequences to minimize initial and long-term cracking.
